Revlon Whipped Colour Stay Foundation Review Monday, Sep 24 2012

Hello!
Alas Revlon has done it again, they’ve created a new Colour stay foundation which has created quiet the buzz in the beauty industry. Everyone seems to be picking it up lately and also a lot of the fans of the liquid colour stay foundation have picked this one up and have compared it. Now I don’t have the liquid colour stay foundation, but I’ve heard so many good things about it, that I actually might pick it up soon and give it a try. The first looks at this foundation was.. uhh ohh they copied the maybelline mouse foundation.. wrong! I hadn’t previously owned and revlon foundations until now, I was un sure of my shade, in drugstores I found it very hard to pick a colour. There is only one tester, which is one shade.. which makes it even more difficult to pick one shade and try and get it right. I did some research first.. I looked up people that had MAC cosmetics foundations and I had seem if they had the revlon foundation and what colour in the revlon they were if they were an NW20 in MAC , which is what I am. That made it easier.. trust me.. it did take about a week to come up with this theory and to try it and see if I could come up with a shade closet to my skin colour.. and the final result.. I did!!! I purchased this foundation in the colour 220 nude. Which seems to suit people who are an NW20 in MAC Foundations. Lets start by describing the formula of this foundation.. to me it is a whipped mousse…. if that makes any sense. It is not liquid.. not creme ( close to though) so more so like a whipped formula, if I tip the jar with the lid off upside down.. it is definitely not going anywhere it is that thick.

Colour: 220 Nude

It isn’t full of air either, the packaging is less than desirable.. because it is a heavy glass jar.. and I think if you dropped this on a hard floor.. it would break. It comes with a twist on and off lid and a white cap to keep the product inside the jar, it seems unsanitary to keep dipping a makeup brush in the product.. which I guess it is, but you can also scoop some out onto your hand each time you apply this, that way your not dipping a dirty brush in it constantly. There are a few ways to apply this foundation that seems to work for this product.. which is a way that I found works best for me and it is using a stiff stippling brush such as the real techniques stippling brush and or the sigma brushes that are very dense and are able to buff in this product very well.

220 Nude

The product claims to last for 24 hours.. I don’t know anyone that would wear makeup for 24 hours while awake.. not me! I seem to get about 8+ hours out of it, with a powder and a setting spray, such as Urban decay all nighter spray!  It seems to work for oily and or dry skin.. which makes it good and appealing to all skin types.  The glass jar doesn’t do the colours justice.. you have to take off the lid and remove the white cap to actually look at the colours available.  I picked this foundation up for $17.99 Canadian… that is expensive compared to other drugstore foundations.. but this one does work and is definitely a medium to full coverage foundation worth trying if you don’t want to spend the money on a high end foundation.  Overall I will be re purchasing this foundation in the future , continuing to love the Revlon colour stay products.

I went shopping!! Thursday, Sep 20 2012

I recently went shopping for makeup.. what else is new, anyways.. there has been a few things I’ve been wanting to pick up and try and also a new foundation has been released by revlon and it is the Whipped foundation. I picked it up and thought for the price it was a bit expensive for a drugstore foundation, but we’ll see how it does and what I think of it. L’oreal has new single eye shadows that are almost like a pressed pigment that has very good pigmentation, I picked up a pink coral colour called “Pepsy Coral”. You definitely have to build this colour up, it can go on sheer or you can really build it up for a bright colour. It seems to be long wearing, I will be picking up a few more of these, they would be easy to travel with too. My mascara is getting old and I needed a new one, I know maybelleine has a few that are good, I got the colossal one, in a yellow tube because I looked at the brush and that was the type I wanted to try. The formula is wet though, smudges easily Im still getting used to it. I can do pencil and or gel eye liner… but liquid.. not my forte, I wanted to try it though, my hand is a little shaky so a small tip with a brush would be too hard for me to use. I saw a few makeup artist using something similar, it is a felt tip pen that is liquid, it is fairly easy to use and I can apply it without any problems or smudging from my shaky hands. I love browsing through the makeup sections in drugstores and all other stores, when new products come out.. good or bad. I just have to pick them up, Sometimes when new collections come out , Since I live in Canada the united states gets them first, so I hear about them online, youtube, twitter.. etc. Then I can see what products are worth trying and which ones aren’t.

Foundation routine Friday, Sep 7 2012

Here is my current foundation routine in a blog post, also will have a video on this soon. There are a few productions I use daily ,I use a moisturizer first before anything, I’m currently using the philosophy “hope in a jar” moisturizer. I need a redness reducing primer because I have redness on my cheek area that normally doesn’t get covered with a foundation. The primer I use is the Makeup forever HD primer #1 (green) the green covers the redness so I have an even ski tone to apply a foundation on. The second product I use is a pore refining solution, the clinique pore refining solutions instant perfectos is the one I use , it comes in 3 different shades , and all you do is smooth it over enlarged pores and it smooths them out and makes them invisible. My current foundation is the Laura Mercier silk creme foundation which is a very full coverage foundation, with the right brush it gives an airbrushed finish and looks flawless. On the really hot days I don’t use this foundation but I do use a BB cream by maybelline , the dream fresh BB cream, which gives a light coverage and adds a nice glow to the skin. This routine is what I do everyday and it seems to work for me.

What is your foundation routine?

Laura Mercier silk creme foundation review Tuesday, Sep 4 2012

I was skeptical of this foundation because I had heard so many good things about it, but that doesnt make sense. A lot of people and youtube guru’s were saying that it is an awesome foundation and worth the expensive price. I wasn’t sure I wanted to pay $55.00 for a foundation.. but I did and I don’t regret it at all. It is a very full coverage foundation which was what I was looking for, as I have a bit of redness on my cheeks that seems to be hard to cover with drug store foundations and or BB creams. I do use a Makeup forever HD primer #1 – that reduces redness. So a BB cream  will cover the redness and give good coverage.  But for a more flawless finish a higher end foundation is needed, I find that using sponges to apply a foundation or any liquid makeup doesnt work for me because it soaks up too much product for it to look good and cover any blemishes. Brushes I find are easier to use and dont soak up so much product, the best type of brush for this foundation to go on smoothly and have an airbrush type finish is a stiff stippling brush.  It is best to shake the product up very well before using, then put a very small amount on the back of your hand and dip your brush into the foundation and starting on your nose as you should always, blend down from your nose and across your T zone, and make sure to blend under your jawline so you don’t end up with a line that is not the same color. Although this is a very expensive foundation is will last you awhile and be worth the money for it. I personally dont set it with a powder but you can to help it stay on longer.

Clinique 3 step skincare system Monday, Aug 20 2012

The Clinique 3 step skincare system was developed by Dermatologist, and it is made for easy use. As it gives you the 3 steps to follow, it has a Cleanser, a toner and a moisturizer. For me I’ve been wanting to find a skincare routine that works for me, but didn’t really know where to start and which products I needed to use and in which order.  I was flipping through a cosmopolitan magazine and saw an ad for the Clinique 3 step skincare system, I looked it up and decided it was a good start as it gives you all 3 steps and how to use them. Also I went in the Clinique website and did the skin diagnosis test and it gave me options for my routine, which was really good.
Step 1) Using the clinique mild facial soap to cleanse skin and prepare it for the toner, the cleanser is a liquid soap that removes makeup, dirt, and sweat. Anything that has gotten into pores and will cause breakouts. How to use: (After makeup has been taken off with a makeup wipe) Wet face with water, pour a small amount of the cleanser into the palm of hand and rub together, then Rub all over the face avoiding the eye area, make sure to get right up to the hairline and also under the jawline as well, then rinse off with water. Pictures above

Step 2) The Clarifying lotion will help clear away pollution and dull flakes for smooth and healthy looking skin. It also reduces pores, and the skin can accept moisture better. The toner will help skin look healthier and younger, the formula is non-drying and comfortable.  How to use: Take a cotton pad or cotton ball.. or even your fingers and rub it all over your face after you have used the cleanser, will feel tingly.. but that is normal. Avoid the eye area and let it soak in, will dry fast on the skin. Picture below

3) Hydrating the skin is the last step in this routine to help the skin look fresh and healthy and stay looking young. It works to soften, smooth, improve the condition and texture of your skin. The lotion formula is for drier skins; oil-free Gel is perfect for oilier skins. I have heard the some people prefer the gel as it is less thicker than the lotion. picture below
This 3 step system is the easiest to use, it is straight forward and fairly priced. It is for all skin types and going on the Clinique website will help you pick out your routine for your skin type after you complete the skin diagnosis.

Inglot freedom system eye shadow palette review Sunday, Aug 12 2012

Inglot cosmetics was created over 25 years ago, A young chemist created the Inglot’s cosmetics. All Inglot cosmetics are made within the European Union and 95% of them are factory-made in our own state of the art production facilities.  The unique Freedom System allows customers to create their own custom palettes with countless shades and color combinations of different face products.  While I was in New York I knew there was an Inglot store in Times Square right near where I was staying, the 2nd day I was in NYC I decided to go  into Inglot as I was in Sephora earlier and decided on creating my own palette. I went in and it is a small space that sits on a corner, in times square. I saw all the colors to choose from for the freedom system palette, the employee was very helpful and nice, I picked the square 5 palette and choose 5 colors, and then she took the ones I picked and went to a draw and got them for me. To buy the palette is separate from the 5 colors , the palette alone is -$11.00 which isn’t bad , the colors are $6.00 each. While at Sephora I picked up the Naked Palette by Urban Decay, and I love the colors it has, it also comes with a brush. I’m more drawn to Inglot because of the freedom system, I will post pictures in this blog post to show the 2 palettes I created for myself.  When looking at all the colors to decide I will admit I was overwhelmed with choices.. But I stopped and thought about what I would want in a palette to use for every day and also change for evening looks. The Inglot Store in times Square is located diagonally from Hershey’s store and across from the M&M store.

Palette #1

Palette #2

The palettes are all magnetized, the cover for them sticks with magnets and also the eyeshadows stick in the palette with strong magnets.

Mascara review Thursday, Jul 26 2012

As I was thinking of a blog to do, as I was doing my makeup I realized I have about 7 mascaras that I should review as I have used all of them, So Im going to review the ones I have and give my opinions on them.

Loreal voluminous million lashes- The packaging is gold and sleek and classy, but slippery to hang onto when applying it, it has a clean sweep wiping system that helps clean your wand as you pull it out of the tube, which I like because most mascara’s have way to much on the wand. This mascara is very hard to get off with just makeup remover, it does clump a bit though.

Covergirl lash blast fushion mascara- This mascara is great  it has an oversized wand on it and a hard bristle brush which helps to separate lashes and fan them out, making it look like you have false eye lashes on. A lot of product does come off on the brush which you need to wipe off before applying or else you will have clumps of mascara on your eye lashes. This is currently my fav mascara at the moment.

Loreal voluminous carbon black- The overall look of this product is sleek and classy, I love this mascara for adding edginess or bold lashes without using false ones. It is a new colour: Carbon Black, Mario Dedvanovic uses this mascara on Kim K sometimes, I picked this mascara up after he said he used it. A lot of product does come out into the brush and will need to be wiped away before using.

Loreal voluminous false lashes- The packaging on this is..interesting, it is sharp on some sides if held tightly. The brush is a typical mascara wand and it does clump because of how the brush is, this one also is hard to get off as well. This mascara is horrible, it doesnt apply well and isnt easy to work with. Thumbs down for me.

Covergirl lash perfection- I have 2 of these, one in brown and one in black, I use it mainly to separate lashes after I use a different mascara and also on my bottom lashes, I think this was one of the first mascaras I bought a few years ago when I started using makeup. I would deffinateky re purchase this again!

After trying these mascaras I think it is a waste of money to spend on some of the high end mascaras as you can find drugstore brands to be just as good.. if not better. I wll not buy the high end mascaras because I know there is one out there that suits my needs and is cheaper

-Which brand do you use?

Summer makeup Favourites Sunday, Jul 15 2012

Cosmetics:

I’ve recently with in the year 2012 just started getting into high end brands of makeup, such as :Mac cosmetics, urban decay, benefit, sephora, etc..

I had started wearing makeup in about grade 6, just a little bit of mascara, I never got too heavy into eyeliner. and sparkly eyeshadows..I kept it natural and fresh looking for my age, I recently (beginning of 2012) finally got together some money to spend on a good high end foundation, concealer powder.. well $110 later I had a Mac cosmetic foundation, concealer and a setting powder.. no brushes yet tho, I actually purchased the setting powder at a later date, about 2 months from my first purchase. Damn that stuffs expensive but addicting especially because it does look good and is better than drugstore brands, when new collections come out.. oh man its like christmas all over again for me. I’ve recently had some products that I’m realizing im reaching for everyday in my makeup routine.

Urban Decay Primer potion: This product is a must have for any girl that uses eye shadows, everyone knows that eye shadows do crease over time on skin, so this is a primer that helps the eye shadow last even longer, this product is available in different skin tone colours.

Garnier vitamin enriched cleansing cloths: These cloths work wonders at removing makeup, even waterproof mascara, they are gentle on sensitive skin and have a nice smell to them, they work well with removing all types of makeup including foudnation, powder, concealer.. etc

Mac cosmetics eye liner pencil:  This pencil is perfect for summer, it is a shimmer brown colour, less harsh then black, easy to smudge, waterline safe, and lasts on the eye for many hours. Perfect for summer makeup looks.

Maybelline dream lumi touch highlighting concealer : This is a summer must have, conceals dark spots, it is ok to use on blemishes, but isnt a heavy concealer for hiding blemishes. Does very well for highlighting/ concealing under the eye, and can also be used on the bridge of the nose and on the chin to highlight those areas. My shade is : Ivory.

Benefit SunBeam: Sun Beam is a golden bronze highlighter, also know as sunshine in a bottle. Can be used on brow bone and cheek bones, for a better effect mix it in with even parts foundation even parts Sun beam and mix together and blend that onto your skin.

Bronze highlighter

Maybelline Dream fresh BB cream : Bb creams are jsut recently becoming popular in north america and other countries, I decided to jump on the band wagon and pick this maybelline one up and give it a try. When I bought it , it was a good color for me… I then ended up tanning a bit and am now a shde darker.. except I cant find the next shade.. which sucks. This product is very light coverage, this is NOT a foundation, it says it does 8 things..it sure does, It does blur imperfections, it doesnt completely hide them though,  it does brighten your skin if buffed in properly and evenly, also smoothes and highdrates skin, it does not leave it feeling dry, it has a deuy finish to it, it does have SPF 30 which for picture taking isnt so good, but for sun protection it does work.

BB Cream, Shade: Light

Maybelline Fit Me concealer : This concealer is about a medium coverage, I only just recently got this product so I cant comment on how good it is yet, but it deffinately hides under eye circles. My shade is 15. I will soon be picking up the foundation to match this concealer.

Fit Me concealer: Shade 15

What are your summer must have makeup products?

The Kit includes:

-A small detailer brush-used for under eye , eye shadow smudging and also can be used for applying lip products

-Fluffy Buffing brush- can be used for powder or liquid foundation, also loose ,mineral , or pressed powder, this brush is best used in a stippling motion or a swirling motion all around the face.

-Contour brush- this brush is perfect for highlighting the top of cheek bone, on the brow bone and around the eye.

-pointed foundation brush- This brush i like but is a little small to apply foundation all over the face, i would prefer a bigger brush so it would be less time consuming
